Treehoppers often have antler-like pronotums that serve as a form of camouflage to protect them from getting eaten by possible predators. The pronotums sometimes mimic thorns like those you might find on a rose stem. But in the case of this particular treehopper, it is a mystery as to what, if anything, it is trying to camouflage itself as. Regardless, the pronotum on this treehopper serves some purpose beyond my knowledge and also makes this insect look very interesting.
